The validation duty in Israel was determined in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Transportation and applies to all types of Rav-Kav cards and apps, for every trip, regardless of profiles that qualify for a discount or free travel, including citizens aged 75 and older.
The Red Line of Dankal is a “semi-open system” means of transportation. At street-level stations, the validation is based on trust in the passenger who is required to pay and validate the Rav-Kav card or the app independently and without being controlled by a gate or the driver. At the underground stations, the passenger is required to pay and validate the Rav-Kav card or the app at the entrance gate to the station and at the exit gate.
According to the law and under the guidance of the Ministry of Transportation, it is mandatory to have a suitable travel ticket in advance, to validate it with the validation device before boarding the train, and to make sure that the validation is correct. Passengers discovered without a travel ticket or a duly validated Rav-Kav or mobile app will be charged with an increased fare (fine).
Validation via Rav-Kav
- At street-level stations, the trip must be validated using the validation devices spread throughout the station platforms before boarding the car.
- When the travel distance exceeds 15 km, you will be required to select the destination station to determine the travel rate.
At underground stations, hold the Rav-Kav card against the reader at the entrance and exit gates.
Trip Validation via Mobile (apps)
- Download one of the apps for paying in public transport from the app store on the smart device: Pango, HopOn or Cello.
- Allow location and camera services.
- Set the starting station and select the travel destination along the Red Line.
- Your smart device will receive a QR code. At street-level stations, you may board the train and without presenting your mobile to the validation device.
At underground stations, the received code must be presented to the reader at the entrance and exit gates.
Everyone is obligated to validate, including National Service, pre-military or semi-annual preparatory school, national service volunteers and service-year volunteers.
The ticket machines are located at all 34 Dankal stations and are accessible to the general public.
The ticketing machine allows the performance of the following actions:
- Rav-Kav card loading.
- Purchase of an empty or loaded anonymous Rav-Kav card with a travel arrangement for the Red Line only.
- Balance check and recent operations performed on the Rav-Kav card.
- Multi-passenger validation for travel arrangements of the accumulated value type and youth ticket only.
- Card validation and destination selection.
Please Note! The ticketing machines have a voice activation interface for the visually impaired, and an audio induction loop for passengers who use a hearing aid.
To enter or exit the Dankal Kiryat Arye station, you must pass through the Israel Railways’ Kiryat Arye station.
Passage via paper ticket
Paper ticket machines are located in the passenger hall. They are intended for a one-time, free of charge passage between Israel Railways and Dankal.
Passage using Rav-Kav
- A monthly pass contract at no cost can be loaded to the Rav-Kav card at the ticketing machines at Kiryat Arye station.
Please Note! A passenger who has loaded a monthly passage contract to his card is not required to present a paper passage ticket.
Passage via app
- Choose travel by Israel Railways and define Kiryat Arye station as both departure and destination. Then standby to receive a QR code and validate it at the entrance and exit.
- After leaving the Israel Railways gates, validate the trip as required. This operation is subject to a fee.
Multi-passenger validation is only available through an accumulated value type travel arrangement loaded without a special discount, or one loaded to a youth profile.
Validation via Rav-Kav card
At street-level stations – when arriving at the validation device, indicate the number of passengers and hold the Rav-Kav card against the device in order to perform the validation. To change the number of passengers, place the Rav-Kav card again, change the number of passengers and wait for confirmation.
At underground stations – you have to go to the entrance gate to the platform, hold the Rav-Kav card against the gate and wait until the last passenger passes.
Validation via apps at all types of stations – select the number of passengers and standby to receive the same number of QR codes as the number of passengers.
Please Note! When exiting an underground station, you will be required to validate each passenger’s QR code at the station’s exit gate.
Certainly! Every train trip requires validation, even for passengers who hold a travel arrangement that grants various discounts or exemptions from payment, including National Service, pre-military or semi-annual preparatory school, national service volunteers and service-year volunteers.
The ticket must be validated for each trip, regardless of the type of contract you have, including transit trips.
Everyone is obligated to validate.
In accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Transportation, the validation duty applies to all types of Rav-Kav cards and apps for each trip, regardless of profiles that qualify for a discount or free travel.
