Accessibility Statement

Tevel Metro, the Dankal operator, considers accessibility for disabled persons as a supreme value and works hard to protect the rights of each and every passenger. All train stations, cars, customer service, the website, digital means and bar code scanning are accessible to all passengers in order to provide them with a comfortable and safe travel and service experience.

In accordance with the Law on Equal Rights for Disabled Persons, 5758-1998, disabled persons’ rights and the commitment of the Israeli society to these rights are based on the recognition of the principle of equality, the value of every person and the principle of human dignity. The purpose of this law is to protect the dignity and freedom of a person with a disability, to anchor his right to equal and active participation in society in all areas of life, as well as to provide an adequate response to his special needs in a way that will allow him to live his life with maximum independence, privacy and dignity, while maximizing his full potential.

Accessibility at Stations

The Light Rail was designed in consultation with accessibility consultants to accommodate passengers with disabilities as much as possible. The train at street-level stations is at platform level, therefore accessible to strollers and wheelchairs. Access to the trains in the underground stations is via elevators and escalators, where the train will also stop on the same level as the passengers, for safe and easy boarding even for strollers and wheelchairs without stairs or an elevator.

Accessibility in Cars

The Light Rail contains two connected cars, with a total of 70 m in length 2.65 m in width. Such a train comfortably holds about 450 passengers. The cars are accessible to wheelchairs and baby strollers. Also, part of the space has fixed seats, and the other part allows comfortable standing and contains many grab handles, alongside sitting on folding seats. The train itself has docking points for wheelchairs. The intensity of the lighting and the size of the inscription on the signs can be adjusted for people with disabilities.

The doors of the Light Rail cars do not close automatically, but rather by the train driver. To verify that it is safe to close the doors, cameras are installed for the driver to use before closing them. Also, the closing of the doors will be accompanied by a flashing light and a beep to ensure full accessibility for all passengers.

Accessible Service Centers

The service centers of Tevel Metro, the Dankal operator, are located on 4 Shalma Rd., 4 Tel Aviv-Yafo and at the Carlebach underground station in Tel Aviv. In both centers there are positions designed to provide an accessible, efficient service without waiting in line. The customer service representatives and the Company managers undergo training and qualifications in the various aspects of accessibility. The purpose of the training is to raise awareness among the Company’s employees of the principle of accessibility and to provide them with practical tools for providing an accessible service
